It’s a sunny 74 degrees outside, though the leaves have already started falling. In a month it will be gray and raw and rainy here in Portland. But I will have a secret antidote to the gloomy weather — my new 100% natural perfume blend Capri 1966 which I am launching today.

The concept behind this blend is an old snapshot I keep on my desk of Grace Kelly stepping off a sailboat in the harbor at Capri wearing simple linen pants and espadrilles, her windblown hair only partially tied back in a plain cotton scarf. There is something in this picture that I identify with — the low-maintenance sporty chic of her outfit, the simple perfection of the location — somehow some piece of my own soul is defined by this image.

When I began formulating this unisex scent collection, I wanted to find the perfect scent to go with this image. I wanted to smell the Mediterranean, the sunshine, the salt, the sweetness of the local blossoms, the sense of water and wind — and the simplicity of a fresh-squeezed glass of orange juice straight from the orange tree outside my kitchen window.

I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy, never fully comfortable glammed up in a lot of make up and high heels. Most perfumes strike me as a similarly false note, a costume I can’t quite pull off, and don't really want to try. So I needed this unisex floral scent to be something I would personally consider to be completely and irresistibly wearable. I think I’ve achieved that. Today I release it to the wind — my perfect Tomboy Floral, with scents of Orange Blossom, Fresh Orange Juice, Bergamot, Lemon, Neroli, Lavender, Sage, and Mediterranean Cypress, which somehow evokes salt and sea and sun and sky. I hope you will love it as much as I love it. It was created with heart and soul.

Sincerely yours,
